As a new club, we are having a great time developing our program and activities. Our primary goal is to design a structure which allows kids with very diverse sets of skills and aptitudes to have fun doing what they love to do best! Crafters, designers, athletes, tacticians, teachers, and dreamers can all find their path to glory within the halls of our garrison.

Pacific Crest Community School

All of the garrison's activities are based at Pacific Crest Community School, located on NE 29th and Davis. Boffer activities are held both on Pacific Crest's classrooms and stage, and at nearby Oregon Park.

Grant Law

Deputy Marshal and High Constable

When he isn't playing with his kids, or with one of several Portland bands, Grant loves to fence. Grant started his first boffer club at Trillium Charter School in 2007, and had been looking for an opportunity to start another ever since. After meeting Pacific Crest's awesome and adventurous students, he knew this was the place!

Are boffers safe?

Boffer weapons have been used around the world by organizations such as the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), Dagorhir, and LARPing groups for several decades, producing highly refined standards and techniques for construction and battle that maximize safety. We have adapted the rules and standards used by the SCA, with a few additions appropriate for our club. If you are curious, you are welcome to review them in the current version of The Pacific Crest Book of Boffer.

What is a boffer?

Boffers are safe foam weapons constructed from PVC tubes, foam pipe insulation, and various forms of tape. The foam padding, combined with a multitude of safety features and construction requirements used to limit risks, make them far safer alternative to the weapons used in western and Japanese fencing sports.
